From morn till night he's by your side and looks at you from deep inside
Depending on your every whim to care for and provide for him
Who else but your best friend, your dog.
Eternally your loving slave defending you right to his grave
No one can sway him from your side he holds you in his loving pride
Who else but your best friend, your dog.
Master, feeder, teacher, friend he knows on you he can depend
And you should know he's loyal too that no one else will stand by you
The way he does both day and night regardless of his life or plight
His duty to your happiness is just a part of him I guess
Who else but your best friend, your dog.
Much more than just a pet he's likely the best friend you'll get
You find yourself more than devoted to the feelings this guy's emoted
Who else but your best friend, your dog.
There's warmth beneath all that hair, a body warm who's always there
With big brown eyes there is a part of him somewhere within your heart
Who else but your best friend, your dog.
Who barks to tell when danger's near so you can live without a fear
Of someone coming way to near to all you own and hold so dear
Who else but your best friend, your dog.
You laugh, you play, enjoy your day with antics that he brings your way
He runs and jumps and humors you and does the things a dog should do
Who else but your best friend, your dog.
There forms a bond no one can break with every day there's no mistake
That love is in your life from him and fills you both right to the brim
With joy and loyalty for both of you to see
Who else but your best friend, your dog.
He listens and he learns from you all the things he needs to do
Remembering what should be done whenever you shout sit or come
He wants to please to show his love with eagerness sent from above
Who else but your best friend, your dog.
This poem's not great by any measure but written just for minor pleasure
To sing the praise of man's best friend and probably to recommend
That we all cherish what joy we share when our best friend is standing there.

Tilly.....This poem IS great....don't deny it. From a Mom of 2 Fur-Babies....who I call, "my boys," & hang out with every day. "Together," we play and eat and go for rides.....and take naps and watch The Animal Planet...& take long walks and discuss problems.....& yes, the humans in my life think I'm a bit "looney"....but WE DON'T CARE!! Best Friends forever!! Wonderful Hub!!
This frame of mind is my absolute best, while commenting Feel the Love! If this poem is not great tillsontitan, then I challenge you to surrender that which you are holding back on me , your soon to be crowned, loyal NY follower. Well soon to be, could take some time , but time is always in plentiful abundance, and belongs solely to my Father, in his omniscience, omnipotence and omnipresence .
He had deliberately designed it so that that which you have written such a beautiful masterpiece on , his name spell backwards: Represents the Most High God!
None other, shares that honor than the Dog!
This is the defining moment of truth, I await those beautiful comparative stories and poems , that rings true so triumphant directly to the soul and connects, with a feeling so infectious! Please surrender thee greatness to already written with such quivering truthful assurance.
Only recently you said to me , that you hope that our best friend will never be the one to betray us "Hope" was and has to be the order of each time this question arises. I can say with assurance that your dog would most definitely not rest on "Hope."
That's the reasons that we all post our heart felt questions.
To confirm to ourselves that what we understand about friendship, even by using the standards of our dogs, and there is absolutely nothing wrong , but everything correct, in using the very best comparison.
We want to be sure that's what the other person understands about friendship , and even more.
This is the most collectively truthful summary of what one can expect from a best friend in the animal world.

Loved this homage to your dog! Voted Up. A dog will love you no matter what and seems to sense whatever you are feeling. Your writing reminds me of the statue of Greyfriars Bobby in Edinburgh - immortalizes the devotion of a dog to his master even after death. This Terrier became known in Edinburgh for spending 14 years guarding the grave of his owner. GClark

Love this tillsontitan, My dog and my cat are without a doubt my best friends! I love my son, don't get me wrong but I have a different kind of love for animals, they are always there - no matter what you have done or said - unconditional love is quite hard to come by - leave it to a dog - loyal friend to the end! And this comment is coming from one crazy cat lady!

What a nice poem! A great tribute to man's best friend! I don't have a dog right now because I don't have enough space. Someday I will get another dog. My last dog was a beautiful Dalmatian named Sage. We had to put her down a few years ago because she was very sick. This poem reminds me of my love for her. Nice job! Voted up and SHARING!
